Mills, Brae and a City of Rolling Hills
In the 1860s, gold rush banker Darius Ogden Mills built a country estate here. He named it Millbrae, combining his last name with the Scottish word "brae," for rolling hills.
- SFO's roots: The airport's original name was Mills Field, since the land was leased from the Mills Estate.
- Incorporated in 1948: Millbrae became a city on January 14, 1948.
- Hills to the west: Neighborhoods like Mills Estate rise toward Skyline Boulevard and Interstate 280.

Neighborhoods on Every Slope
Millbrae's homes run from the flat streets near downtown to hillside neighborhoods closer to 280. We plan each job around where you live:
- Near downtown and Broadway: Flatter streets and driveways make setup easy.
- Mills Estate and the western hills: We'll look for the most level spot, since urethane sets best when the car isn't on a steep angle.
- Apartments and condos: Reserve a guest space or check with your manager first.
- Garages: Always the best option when there's room.

A Transit Town
Millbrae Station connects BART, Caltrain and SamTrans in one place, and plenty of residents commute by train. That makes it easy to leave the car at home, which is exactly where we'd rather work on it.
- Station parking lots generally don't allow vehicle work, so home is the better spot. Check the BART Millbrae Station page for current parking and construction updates.
- Commuting while we work? Let us know when you book, and we'll talk through car access and timing.

Glass Problems by Season
- Rainy season: Leaks around the glass or new wind noise can point to a failing seal. Worn wipers can also leave scratches as they drag across the glass.
- Cold mornings: Blasting the defroster on cold glass with a chip in it can make the chip spread fast. Warm the car gradually instead.
- Warm, sunny stretches: Heat makes glass expand and contract through the day, which can turn a small chip into a crack.
- Any time of year: A smashed side window needs fast attention. Tape plastic over the opening and call us.

Between 101 and 280
Millbrae sits between two of the Peninsula’s busiest freeways. Highway 101 runs along the airport side, and Interstate 280 runs along the western hills.
Both carry heavy truck traffic, which means plenty of rock chips. A small chip can usually be repaired in about 30 minutes, which beats waiting until it spreads.
